In a stunning display, Parramatta playmaker Jonah Pezet shone against his future team, the Broncos, yet his desire for excellence is evident as he remains unsatisfied.
The five-eighth's performance included four try assists and a try, helping secure a 40-32 victory over Brisbane at Lang Park on Thursday night.
Next season, the 23-year-old will join the Broncos to succeed the retiring Adam Reynolds, but that is a concern for another time.
Amidst his impressive offensive plays, it was a pivotal try-saving tackle that left Pezet feeling particularly proud.
Prior to the match, Broncos centre Kotoni Staggs indicated their strategy would involve putting pressure on Pezet by having second-rower Jordan Riki contest him, similar to how Melbourne's Joe Chan pressured him in a prior game.
However, this tactic backfired; it was, in fact, Pezet who executed a critical tackle on Riki, dislodging the ball and preventing the Broncos from extending their lead to 16-0.
This crucial moment was one Pezet aims to replicate more frequently, though he expressed disappointment over missing a tackle on Brisbane prop Payne Haas, which led to a try.
"It probably switched my mentality a little bit when I got physical, and actually used my shoulders for once," Pezet reflected.
"I need to keep doing that and take that into next week. That start I had tonight, I can't do that next week and for the next 25 rounds either. I need to start well and be physical from the start. I missed the jump tonight."
