Peter Sterling has been approached to present the Clive Churchill medal at the NRL grand final after Rodney Churchill was stripped of the honor.
Rodney Churchill, the son of NRL legend Clive Churchill, made disparaging remarks about Latrell Mitchell that were widely condemned.
Churchill described Mitchell as "lazy" and a "cancer on the club," causing outrage.
Although he later apologized, he will not be presenting the medal named after his father at this year's grand final.
Instead, Rodney Churchill has requested that previous Clive Churchill medallists present the honor in the future.
Peter Sterling, the 1986 winner, is expected to present the medal this year.
Under the new system, a different medallist will present the award each year, with Cliff Lyons, Paul Dunn, Bradley Clyde, Ricky Stuart, and Dylan Edwards among the future presenters.
