Perth Bears have made significant strides in their recruitment efforts, successfully securing the signing of Penrith prop Liam Henry on a lucrative four-year contract. This milestone marks Perth's first notable signing, outmaneuvering interest from multiple clubs. Additionally, the team has also welcomed Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui, the brother of Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, on a two-year deal, which could serve as an enticing factor to attract Tino to join the Bears in the future.
As of now, Perth has signed six players for their inaugural season in 2027, just five and a half weeks after entering the player market. A significant number of these new additions are expected to come from the Super League, with standout halfback Toby Sexton leading the roster of signings from the NRL this year.
Henry's signing stands out as a major achievement for the Bears, especially considering that five other clubs were also vying for his signature. Highly regarded within the Panthers organization, Henry's increasing prominence made it challenging for Penrith to retain him, particularly within the constraints of their disciplined salary-cap strategy.
Reports indicate that Perth made a compelling offer that surpassed any other club's proposal, allowing them to view Henry as a pivotal long-term leader for their forward pack.
