The Perth Bears have announced the signing of their first train and trialist for 2027, welcoming Ammaron Gudgeon to the team.
Targeting talent from North Sydney, which participates in the NSW Cup, the Bears have made a promising choice in Gudgeon, a young fullback with a background in the Melbourne Storm system.
Before heading east, Gudgeon played for the South West Warriors in Western Australia. He subsequently joined the Storm, took time with the St George Illawarra Dragons and South Sydney Rabbitohs, and recently signed with the North Sydney Bears this year.
During his time at North Sydney, Gudgeon has excelled, netting six tries and providing four assists in 11 games, all while averaging an impressive 149 meters per match.
"This is a full circle moment for me and I'm excited about the opportunity to compete with the best of the best in the NRL," Gudgeon expressed.
He also added, "I'm grateful for the opportunity North Sydney and the head coach Leon Latulipe has given me this year.
"They have shown faith in me and I want to make sure we finish the season off strong and hopefully bring home another NSW Cup premiership."
Gudgeon, who is set to train with Perth during the off-season, aims for a Top 30 or development deal. Coach Mal Meninga has already recognized his potential.
"AJ is a quality player who is in career-best form," Meninga noted.
