South Sydney has offered Cody Walker a deal containing an option for a second season. If activated, it would make him the equal oldest player in NRL history.
Meanwhile, the Perth Bears have begun preliminary talks with Matt Burton's management about bringing the Canterbury five-eighth west.
The move could reunite Burton with former halves partner Toby Sexton. Bears officials are prepared to offer Burton the No. 6 jersey and a salary suited to that role, sources not authorised to speak publicly said.
Burton is contracted to Canterbury through the end of 2027, but the Bulldogs have allowed him to assess his options before becoming a free agent on November 1.
Canterbury wants to keep him as a centre. However, the NSW Blues utility could command more on the open market as a five-eighth.
