Tom Jenkins is two wins from a maiden premiership ring as he prepares to face Newcastle in Sunday afternoon's grand final qualifier.
The 25-year-old will line up on the left wing for Penrith against his former club.
Jenkins signed a two-year deal to join the Knights for 2024 after limited opportunities during his first spell at Penrith.
His Newcastle stint ended later that year after five appearances, none of them try-scoring.
He spent most of the season in reserve grade, with Enari Tuala and Greg Marzhew preferred on the wing by then-coach Adam O'Brien.
"I guess it was the wrong fit for me, and probably it was similar for them," Jenkins told the NewsWire.
"I probably wasn't in their future plans. It was one of those exits where it was pretty mutual and they understood that it was a different direction for both parties. It wasn't anything crazy.
"I guess you'd argue that a couple of higher-ups and people on the coaching staff (meant it) probably wasn't the right fit for me.
"I just needed different coaching and different communication, understanding where I need that and how I'm going to get it. I felt like I wasn't getting it there, so I've come back and I'm definitely getting it here."
