Penrith Panthers boss fumbles with controversial Fowler comment

Penrith Panthers chief Brian Fletcher is facing some heat after a cheeky comment about Mary Fowler, according to a report from zerotackle.com.

The remark, made in response to questions about Nathan Cleary's future and his connection to the soccer star, was meant to be a bit of banter.

But it seems to have rubbed some people the wrong way.

Fletcher was discussing rumors about Cleary possibly heading to the English Super League, in part due to his relationship with Fowler, who currently plays for Manchester City.

In a bid to keep Cleary in Penrith, the Panthers head honcho quipped about bringing Fowler back Down Under.

"It was all in good fun," Fletcher explained in an interview with Sky Sports Radio on Sunday.

But not everyone saw the funny side.
