Payne Haas Set to Confirm Contract Extension
Brisbane Broncos prop Payne Haas is expected to finalize a contract extension with the club before Christmas, following the collapse of the proposed R360 rugby union competition.
With his current deal set to expire at the end of 2026, Haas has had the opportunity to explore options with rival NRL clubs since November 1. However, sources indicate he never seriously considered leaving Red Hill, where he achieved NRL premiership success in 2025.
Despite being closely linked to R360-a breakaway rugby union league offering Haas over $3 million annually-the competition's launch, originally scheduled for October 2026, has now been delayed until at least 2028. Its future remains uncertain.
Instead, Haas is poised to sign a seven-figure deal to remain in Brisbane long-term, which will mark another salary upgrade according to a News Corp report.
Had he entered the market, Haas would have attracted numerous offers, as the New South Wales and Samoan representative is widely regarded as the premier prop in the game.
While the speculation surrounding R360 persisted, the report indicates that Haas recently informed NRL CEO Andrew Abdo and Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman Peter V'Landys-who has consistently criticized R360-of his commitment to staying in rugby league.
