The fitness of Payne Haas sparked concerns at Broncos training when he left early, raising fears of injury.

However, it was later revealed that Haas, a devout Muslim, was observing Ramadan, which requires fasting between sunrise and sunset.

Despite fasting, Haas put in a stellar performance in round one, making 142 running metres and assisting in a try.

Broncos coach Michael Maguire allowed Haas to leave early to rest and recover after his outstanding performance.

Haas's teammate, Kobe Hetherington, confirmed that despite fasting, Haas displayed no signs of fatigue during training.

Hetherington praised Haas for his dedication and work ethic, stating, "He gives it week-in, week-out and puts up the big numbers.

He always gives his 100 percent." Haas has a history of excelling during Ramadan while maintaining his playing duties.

With three more games to go during the holy month, Haas has already demonstrated his ability to balance fasting with top-level performance.
