Josh Addo-Carr remains at a rehabilitation facility on the Central Coast after learning he tested positive in a roadside drug test.
His camp is waiting for formal notification of the B-sample result, and Parramatta and the NRL will await it before deciding on punishment.
It was reported that Addo-Carr was randomly tested on the evening of September 11 after driving on Enmore Road in Newtown, with cocaine allegedly detected.
The test came almost two years after he failed a random roadside test in 2024.
According to Code Sports, Addo-Carr could be suspended for at least three months if any club signs him.
That suspension is standard under the NRL's illicit drug testing policy after a player's second positive test.
If Parramatta keep him on their 2027 roster and the B-test is positive, the NRL's punishment would be a 12-match ban.
The Eels remain divided over whether to sack Addo-Carr, although they are more likely to do so "reluctantly".
His 2027 salary under his Eels extension is reportedly around $400,000.
If Parramatta terminates his contract, the NRL may not confirm its sanction.
