In the lead-up to his successful farewell in the State of Origin, Maroons enforcer Josh Papalii faced personal challenges, including spending nights in a hospital chair next to his wife, Mesepa, and their newborn son, Jeremiah.

Despite these disruptions, Queensland coach Billy Slater recognized Papalii as the vital steadying influence the Maroons needed for the series decider at Accor Stadium.

Although Papalii missed numerous calls from Slater while in the hospital, he remained determined to return for one final chapter in his career.
