Eels rookie Joash Papalii made a significant splash in his NRL debut, gaining attention as far away as Hawaii, thanks largely to his mother.
Approximately 150 friends and family gathered at Parramatta Stadium to witness the young winger's debut, which occurred during the Eels' unexpected 30-10 victory over Manly.
Papalii stepped in for the concussed Will Penisini less than 90 seconds into the match.
In his debut, the 20-year-old Canterbury junior shined, playing primarily on the right wing.
He first set up a try for Jordan Samrani after collecting a kick from Dean Hawkins.
Shortly after, he scored his own try with a well-timed play off a looping pass from Hawkins.
His performance was particularly remarkable considering he had been a replacement player for all but one of Parramatta's games since round two.
Reflecting on his debut, Papalii expressed his long-held dream of playing in the NRL: "I've always dreamed about this, watching it as the 18th man, experiencing the boys playing, it's all I ever wanted to do," he said at full time.
