The Canberra Raiders have announced that Josh Papalii has re-signed with the club through to the end of the 2026 NRL season, likely marking the final chapter of his playing career.

Initially, Papalii was set to leave the Raiders and continue his career in the English Super League; however, recent events have shifted this narrative.

His name was first associated with a move to the Newcastle Knights. Later, after being selected for the Queensland State of Origin squad for Game 3 by coach Billy Slater-who commended his experience and 'aura'-discussions regarding a contract extension with the Raiders commenced.

Now, this speculation has been confirmed, as the Raiders declared that Papalii, the club's most-capped player, will continue for an additional year.

This announcement follows the Knights confirming the signing of young Raiders forward Trey Mooney, who requested a release after Papalii initiated negotiations for his extension.

This development ensures that minor premiers will retain their core middle third players through 2026, with Papalii continuing alongside Corey Horsburgh and captain Joseph Tapine, as well as bench players Morgan Smithies and Ata Mariota.

Papalii noted that 2025, described as a "year to remember," influenced his decision to extend his time with the Raiders.
