In a surprising turn of events, Thomas Jenkins was awarded two honors at the Penrith Panthers' end-of-season awards night, only hours after being dropped for the club's elimination final against the Warriors. The Panthers also confirmed the exit of 13 players as they restructure their roster for 2026.

Jenkins' journey this season has been remarkable; he scored 13 tries in 21 matches, beginning the year in the third-tier Ron Massey Cup. He made his debut in Round 3, stepping up due to injuries, and continued to participate in every game thereafter.

He even received a call-up to join the NSW Origin camp mid-year, reflecting his rising profile. However, Panthers coach Ivan Cleary made the surprising decision to drop Jenkins for the elimination match in Auckland, choosing Paul Alamoti to take his place on the wing.

Alamoti, who scored a try in last year's grand final, has more experience in crucial games than Jenkins. He accumulated 12 tries in 16 matches and secured his place in the finals with strong performances over the recent weeks.

Despite the disappointment, Jenkins showed resilience and attended the Merv Cartwright awards night to celebrate the achievements of his teammates. His incredible journey this year was recognized when he won the Members Player of the Year award and the John Farragher Award for Courage and Determination.

However, being overlooked for the finals caused some bittersweet feelings for him. One social media user noted: "Milky (Jenkins) not playing finals is a wild call, but in Ivan we trust." Another commenter expressed: "And yet the members player of the year isn't starting when he's been the best, most hardworking player all year."

Nathan Cleary received his third Merv Cartwright Medal as the team's player of the season, while Scott Sorensen was named Club Person of the Year. Luron Patea earned the Ben Alexander Rookie of the Year award, rounding out a night of both celebration and reflection for the Panthers.
