Panthers in a pickle: Tago tackles trouble

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Penrith Panthers centre Izack Tago is set to face a one-week suspension after being charged with a Grade 2 dangerous contact offence by the NRL's match review committee.

This decision comes after Tago was penalized for an incident in the first half during a match against Parramatta, where he was deemed to have made dangerous contact with second-rower Kitione Kautoga.

The incident, which went unseen by on-field officials at the time, resulted in Kautoga leaving the game and not returning, putting him at risk of a potential suspension as well.

The match review committee acted on the incident after it was overlooked on the field and noted that this is Tago's first offence.

Consequently, if Tago submits an early guilty plea, he will serve a one-week ban; otherwise, he risks a two-week suspension if he contests the charge at the judiciary and loses.

In addition to Tago, two other players were charged following Sunday's Round 19 fixtures: Warriors forward Leka Halasima and Broncos back-up dummy half Tyson Smoothy.
