Liam Martin, a forward for the Westpac NSW Blues, has shared his connection to Neale Daniher, the Australian of the Year renowned for his inspiring battle with motor neurone disease (MND).

Growing up in the Riverina and attending West Wyalong High School, Martin formed a close bond with the Daniher family as he played junior AFL with Neale's nephew, Chris.

He has been an admirer of Daniher's efforts to raise awareness and funds for MND research since his diagnosis.

Daniher, a former Essendon player, has played a pivotal role in mobilizing support for the fight against MND, raising millions for research initiatives.

The personal impact of this battle deepened for Martin when his own uncle was diagnosed with the same condition.

Before Game One of the State of Origin series, former Blues winger Michael De Vere recounted a notable incident from 2003, adding to the team's pre-game discussions.

Daniher, who was working for the West Coast Eagles in Perth when he received his MND diagnosis, remains a source of inspiration for Martin.

As the Blues prepare for a crucial game at the Eagles' home ground, Martin emphasizes that Daniher's journey will stay with him as a motivating force.
