The Newcastle Knights have officially secured the wooden spoon for 2025 after suffering a humiliating defeat against the Parramatta Eels, ending the match with a score of 66-10.
In a fitting end to a tumultuous season, departing head coach Adam O'Brien delivered an impassioned press conference following the game.
"I can't stick a ribbon on that," he expressed, reflecting on the team's disappointing performance.
Despite his efforts to project optimism for the Knights' future, O'Brien could not hide his frustration after another demoralizing loss.
"Over time, the pain and disappointment will ease for these boys, and there are greener shoots and better days ahead, but right now, I can't lie, I'm bitterly disappointed," he admitted.
He emphasized that "the town doesn't deserve a performance like that, given what they sit through."
