O'Brien's "Best" News: A Tricky Tackle Ahead

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Newcastle Knights head coach Adam O'Brien has provided an update on Bradman Best's hamstring injury, which is in what has been described as a "tricky spot." According to zerotackle.com, Best was on the verge of selection for the New South Wales Blues for the opening game of the 2025 State of Origin series but may have been overlooked for a centre position in favor of Latrell Mitchell and Stephen Crichton.

He was withdrawn from the Knights' heavy loss to the Parramatta Eels shortly before the match began, a significant setback for a team already lacking depth in the outside backs.

Dylan Lucas stepped into the centre role, contributing to a backline that also featured rookie Fletcher Hunt on the wing, who took over for Greg Marzhew after he underwent surgery for an MCL injury.

Best has a history of hamstring issues, and reports from The Newcastle Herald suggest he could be sidelined for up to eight weeks as the Knights strive to improve their season performance.

O'Brien noted that while Best has strength in the hamstring, the injury's location has raised concerns that the talented centre could miss the next two months of play.
