Corey Oates, a veteran player for the Brisbane Broncos, has made a surprising admission amid being snubbed for the team's upcoming NRL finals match against the Storm.

Despite being left out of the lineup, Oates has expressed his willingness to take a pay cut in order to remain with the Broncos.

This decision is significant considering Oates' long-standing career with the team, having played in 201 games and scoring 118 tries since his NRL debut in 2013.

The 28-year-old has faced a challenging season in 2023 due to injuries, which has given Jesse Arthars the opportunity to shine on the wing.

Arthars has impressed with his performance, scoring eight tries in 17 matches and averaging 97 running metres per game.

In comparison, Oates has demonstrated his prowess in the nine games he has played this season, averaging an impressive 185m per game, although he has yet to score a try.

Earlier in the season, there were reports of interest from other clubs, including Newcastle, in signing Oates.

It was suggested that Oates felt disrespected by the salary offered by the Broncos, which was $450,000 per season.

However, Oates has now accepted that as an "older player," he is willing to take a pay cut and remain loyal to the Broncos.

He acknowledged that this is something older players often have to do in order to keep a successful team together.

Oates' commitment to the Broncos despite being left out of the finals match against the Storm is a testament to his loyalty and dedication to the team.

It remains to be seen if his decision will pay off in terms of securing his future with the Broncos or if other opportunities will arise for the talented winger.
