'Cool to be No.1': AJ Leaves Door Open for New PNG Team

Alex Johnston, who is on track to become the all-time greatest tryscorer, has hinted at the possibility of making history as the first signing for the new Papua New Guinea (PNG) NRL team.

The information comes from nrl.com.au, highlighting Johnston's remarkable career.

Currently needing just five tries to match the long-standing record of 212 premiership tries, held by Ken Irvine since 1972, Johnston has recently extended his contract with South Sydney for another two years.

This extension, however, does not hinder his aspirations to join the PNG team set to enter the NRL in 2028, a prospect he is enthusiastic about.

Johnston's ties to Papua New Guinea are personal, as his grandmother, Mary, was born there.

He has been representing the Kumuls at the international level since 2019, solidifying his commitment to the team.
