NSW's bruise: A kick above the rest

Andrew Johns airs complaint over NSW moment in State of Origin 2 that 'shouldn't be allowed'

Andrew Johns expressed strong discontent regarding a stoppage in State of Origin 2 when Reece Robson of NSW required treatment for a minor cut.

This incident occurred after Robson's tackle on Reuben Cotter, where he sustained a cut above his eye due to an accidental kick.

Despite Queensland gaining momentum and preparing to attack, referee Ashley Klein halted the game for Robson to receive treatment.

Under NRL protocols, game stoppages can occur for head injuries, but the necessity of this particular interruption was questionable.

Robson did not require a head injury assessment and was not seriously injured, only needing a bandage for the cut.

Johns criticized the decision to stop play, suggesting it was unwarranted, as it allowed NSW to rest and regroup defensively.

He remarked in Channel 9's commentary, "I don't think they should stop the game for this.

This is playing into NSW's hands as they'll get their breath back.

They should take him out the back over the dead-ball line (and continue the game).

They shouldn't be allowed to do this."

The stoppage benefited NSW, enabling them to thwart a subsequent Queensland attack and maintain their position in the game.

Johns' comments reflect a broader frustration among viewers about the timing and reasoning behind the game interruption.
