One of the major discussions among New South Welshmen prior to Origin selection was who Laurie Daley would choose for the centre position.
Latrell Mitchell was regarded as a nearly certain choice; however, he had to withdraw on Sunday due to an ongoing back injury.
Daley spoke about his conversation with Latrell on Monday morning, commending the Rabbitohs star for prioritizing the team.
"I had a conversation with Latrell yesterday, and he made it very clear that he didn't want to let NSW down, didn't want to let the team down," Daley remarked regarding Mitchell's choice.
"He didn't feel like he was fit enough to get through an Origin contest."
"He was very selfless in that decision. But I think we all realise that Latrell Mitchell, at his best, is the most dangerous centre in the game."
"A fit and healthy Latrell Mitchell is always a bonus for any football team."
Despite Stephen Crichton having participated in every NSW Game over the last four series, some questioned whether Daley would support the Bulldogs captain again due to his recent dip in form.
Nonetheless, Daley has made it clear that Crichton was always going to keep the sky blue jersey.
