Lighting strikes twice: How NRLW stars dealt with crazy weather

Sydney Roosters captain Isabelle Kelly initially thought her team had been denied a try when referee Tori Wilkie halted the match due to nearby lightning strikes.

This interruption during the game against Wests Tigers marked the first instance of an NRLW match being paused due to lightning, mimicking a similar occurrence in the NRL earlier this season.

It wouldn't be the last disruption of the day, as players from the Sharks and Broncos were also pulled from the field during their match in the inaugural NRLW Magic Round at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The stoppage occurred after Sergis scored in the 39th minute, and Kelly noted that the players were initially confused about the situation but felt proud of their ability to manage the uncertainty.

Broncos superstar Tamika Upton, who scored three tries in her team's 28-14 victory over Cronulla, mentioned that players had anticipated the possibility of a lightning delay after reviewing weather warnings prior to the game.

The most challenging aspect for both players and coaching staff was the uncertainty surrounding the duration of the stoppage, as they sought to keep warm in the dressing rooms until it was deemed safe to continue the game.
