In a sad development ahead of the NRL season opener in Las Vegas, the league's attempt to bring Hugh Jackman on board for promotion seems to have fallen through.

The Hollywood superstar, reportedly busy with other commitments, won't be able to help promote the highly anticipated clash between Manly and South Sydney.

The NRL had hoped that Jackman's star power would attract attention to the game and the competition's double-header in the US.

However, it seems that the league will now have to work with other sports and their athletes to promote the event.

Despite being a diehard Manly fan, Jackman will not be attending the game.

The 55-year-old actor has been going through a difficult time after his recent separation from his wife of 27 years.

When the idea of taking the NRL to the US was first suggested, Jackman enthusiastically expressed his support.

However, it seems that both he and Souths owner Russell Crowe will not be present at the season opener.

Nonetheless, Crowe is said to be collaborating with the NRL in preparation for the historic game.
