The NRL's attempt to cross-promote with an NFL game in Las Vegas has proven to be a rough and tumble affair, leaving the league bloodied and bruised.

According to reports from news.com.au, Monday's promotional attempt in Sin City showed just how much work the NRL has ahead of them if they want to sell rugby league to Americans.

One glaring issue was the NRL's inability to even get the name of the sport correct.

Despite the ambitious and costly efforts of NRL CEO Peter V'landys, who has received praise for his attempts to expand the league's audience, it seems that the Las Vegas experiment is far from a slam dunk.

Even V'landys' visit to The White House, where he rubbed shoulders with President Joe Biden and Anthony Albanese, was seen as a promising (albeit bizarre) step forward.

However, detractors of the whole venture were quick to sharpen their knives on Monday, citing a combination of factors that cast doubt on its success.
