The Queensland Rugby League (QRL) has launched a new NRLQ Under 20 development series, in collaboration with the NRL and four Queensland-based NRL clubs: the Broncos, Dolphins, Titans, and Cowboys.
This series is structured as a home-and-away round robin competition for Under 20 teams.
Its primary goal is to enhance elite development pathways, particularly addressing the gap left by the conclusion of existing junior competitions like the Mal Meninga Cup Under 19s.
The initiative aims to create a level playing field between Queensland and New South Wales NRL clubs, as all NSW clubs are currently able to participate in the NSWRL Jersey Flegg competition.
By implementing this series, the QRL envisions fostering better developmental systems for young players.
Notably, several matches from the NRLQ series will be integrated into game days for NRL fixtures, further enriching the experience for teams and fans alike.
The competition is set to commence on Saturday, May 31, and will consist of six rounds.
This new series represents a significant step in the ongoing pathways review aimed at improving opportunities for aspiring rugby league players in Queensland.
