Michael Dickson, an Australian Super Bowl champion, believes that NRL star Matt Burton has the potential to transition into NFL punting.
According to Dickson, it takes "intense attention to detail, a big leg and a bit of delusion" to succeed in that high-pressure environment.
Burton, known for his impressive kicks, has been likened to NFL punters for quite some time, especially after his recent preseason training session where he launched the ball over 60 meters.
The 25-year-old has expressed interest in pursuing a career in American football and took the opportunity to train at the Las Vegas Raiders' facilities this week as his current team, the Bulldogs, prepares for the NRL season opener.
Dickson, who is more familiar with AFL than NRL, once aspired to play Australian Rules football with the Sydney Swans academy.
However, he is confident that an athlete of Burton's caliber could make the switch to the NFL if he chose to do so.
"I'm sure he could do it," Dickson remarked to AAP.
He noted, "It's quite different to Aussie Rules and league, the sweet spot (on the ball) is completely different. He would eventually find the sweet spot kicking an NFL ball."
Dickson's own journey included training in Melbourne with Prokick Australia, attending the University of Texas, and being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018.
