In a move that could be described as a real game-changer, NRL head honcho Graham Annesley recently shed some light on the shake-up within the refereeing department.
Jared Maxwell has been given the important task of honing in on bunker accuracy, ensuring that every decision made is spot on.
Meanwhile, Brock Schaefer has been called up from the ranks to focus on enhancing high performance within the game.
With a decade of experience under his belt at the Rabbitohs, Schaefer brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role after stepping down as chief operating officer last year.
Now, he'll be calling the shots in head office, where his main focus will be on raising the performance levels of referees, as well as the Kangaroos and Jillaroos.
"We're aiming to give the coaching resources in the refereeing department a bit more freedom," Annesley explained.
"Jared Maxwell was juggling both managing the department and coaching, which meant his attention was always split.
This new structure should allow for a more focused approach moving forward."
