Newy Knights icon, Andrew Johns, copped some flak from fans for his comments on Kalyn Ponga's injury.
The legendary NRL figure, known for his impromptu diagnoses of player ailments, was encouraged by a top physio to stick to his "Dr Joey" routine despite the backlash.
Johns had fans in a tizzy last week as he persistently called for Ponga to be subbed out after the young gun sustained a pesky hip pointer injury.
In classic Joey fashion, he repeated his belief that Ponga was done for the day after the fullback showed signs of discomfort on the field.
"Someone needs to step in and take Kalyn Ponga out of the game," he insisted during the Channel 9 broadcast.
However, as soon as Johns demanded Ponga's exit, the talented fullback found his stride and made some impressive plays, nearly leading the Knights to a victory against the Roosters.
Despite his grit and determination, Ponga was clearly feeling the effects of the injury post-game.
Coach Adam O'Brien praised his warrior spirit, emphasizing Ponga's toughness and resilience on the field.
It was a valiant effort from the young star, earning him respect from teammates and fans alike.
