Chad Townsend, the veteran NRL halfback, has announced his retirement at the end of the season, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans and pundits alike.

The 34-year-old revealed his decision via social media, bringing closure to speculations surrounding his retirement.

In his announcement, Townsend expressed deep gratitude, stating, "It's hard to put into words what this game means to me." He acknowledged his roots with the Yarrawarrah Tigers, stating, "The memories and friendships I created at my junior club still live with me today and I am very grateful for that."

Reflecting on his professional journey, he thanked the various teams he represented: the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, New Zealand Warriors, North Queensland Cowboys, and Sydney Roosters.

He said, "I am forever grateful for the opportunity you gave me to fulfil my dreams of playing in the NRL," and conveyed appreciation to the fans who have supported him throughout his career.

Townsend also paid tribute to his family, friends, and teammates, mentioning, "To all my teammates over the years, thank you for being there for me throughout the highs and lows that is the rollercoaster of the NRL." He highlighted the incredible memories shared with teammates as something he will deeply miss.

Acknowledging the contributions of coaches and club staff, he emphasized the importance of the relationships he built, expressing his gratitude for their support.

He also thanked his management team: "To my management, Gavin and Chris at Pacific Sports Management, we have shared a long journey together.

Thank you for your guidance and support throughout my entire NRL career."

In a heartfelt message to his family, he said, "To my beautiful wife Marissa and the kids Myra, Cairo, Miami and Malibu, thank you for your unwavering support throughout my career.

You have been there through it all, on and off the field.

Every win, every loss, we did it together."

As Townsend prepares to close this chapter, his significant contributions and the impact he made on the game will be remembered fondly by fans and the NRL community.
