Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler have been honored as two of the initial ten inductees into the Sydney Olympic Park Hall of Fame.
During a gala event celebrating 25 years since the 2000 Olympics, Fitler and Johns joined other legendary Australian athletes such as Cathy Freeman, Ian Thorpe, and John Aloisi.
David Gallop, Chair of Venues NSW and Accor Stadium, emphasized that the celebration was about more than individual accolades.
"It's a tribute to the collective effort of the people of NSW and the enduring legacy of a venue that has hosted the world's biggest events, from the Olympics to World Cups, Grand Finals and concerts by global superstars," Gallop stated during the gala.
Johns delivered an outstanding performance in the inaugural rugby league match at Stadium Australia, where his team triumphed over Manly with a score of 41-8. He showcased his skills by scoring a try, six goals, and a field goal.
Known as 'Joey,' he also earned the Clive Churchill medal while leading the Newcastle Knights to a remarkable 30-24 victory in the grand final at the same venue.
Additionally, the eighth Immortal clinched three State of Origin player of the match awards at the stadium throughout his 23-game Origin career.
