NRL Fans Unite Over Controversial Calls

NRL fans make same complaint about unpopular calls as Panthers roll on against Wests Tigers

NRL fans are expressing frustration over refereeing inconsistencies following the Penrith Panthers' dominant 36-2 victory over the Wests Tigers, marking their seventh consecutive win and propelling them into fifth place on the ladder.

Fans took to social media to voice their complaints regarding officials penalizing teams for incorrect play-the-balls, a decision they found unpopular.

The Tigers started the match strong, taking a 2-0 lead with an early penalty goal.

However, their performance quickly declined as they allowed the reigning champions field position due to a series of six-again restarts.

Referee Peter Gough penalized the Tigers for a 'roll-ball' because they failed to play the ball correctly, enabling Penrith to seize momentum and score three quick tries, establishing a 16-point lead by halftime.

Many viewers noted a discrepancy, as several Panthers players appeared to commit similar infractions without being penalized.

Tries by Lindsay Smith, Casey McLean, and Dylan Edwards highlighted the issue, with widespread belief that multiple Panthers' tries were preceded by unpunished 'roll-balls.'

Quick play-the-balls have gained importance in the NRL, particularly since the introduction of six-again restarts, and the Panthers excel in this area.

Nonetheless, it seems players from all teams are often escaping penalties for incorrect play-the-balls, leading fans to label the officials' decision-making as 'farcical.'

Despite the outcry, the Tigers were ultimately overshadowed by the Panthers, who are aiming for a top-four finish.

The Panthers' victory, coupled with the Warriors losing against the Titans and the Broncos falling to the Eels, has given them renewed hope in their push for a strong season finish.
