The NRL is poised to make a decision within the next three months about pursuing a global round, with a strategy that emphasizes gradual international expansion each year.

Peter V'landys, chairman of the ARL Commission, has revealed that the NRL has developed a three-year plan aimed at introducing double-headers in at least four cities.

He also informed AAP that Las Vegas would remain a fixture even after the current agreement expires in 2028, describing it as the league's flagship event.

V'landys has been upfront about his ambitions for the initiative to expand, particularly in light of the upcoming double-header season opener set for Allegiant Stadium on Saturday.

The NRL is especially eager to take a game to London as early as next year, positioning it as the next international venue for the league.

Additional candidates include Miami, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and the UAE, where plans involve hosting NRL double-headers alongside Super League matches in each location.

"We're going to ease the way into it. We are going to have a three-year plan to have at least four (cities)," V'landys told AAP.

"We are working on it now. We're doing all the business cases so in the next three months we will know."

Encouraged by approximately 16,000 fans descending on downtown Las Vegas for the launch event Thursday night, V'landys is feeling increasingly optimistic about the initiative's success.
