NRL Club Pursues Released Storm Forward Asofa-Solomona

One month after turning down an opportunity to sign New Zealand international Nelson Asofa-Solomona, an NRL club has reportedly made a formal approach to secure his services.

Asofa-Solomona was released by the Melbourne Storm last month after missing consecutive NRL grand finals and failing to justify his hefty price tag of $850,000 per season. His future in the sport remains uncertain.

Having struggled to regain his dominant form in the last couple of seasons, the front-rower participated in only 12 matches during the 2025 NRL season. He also faced time in reserve-grade due to performance issues, which included multiple suspensions.

Although he is still only 29, there have been mixed reports in recent weeks regarding his future in rugby league. Some speculate he may pursue alternative sports such as boxing or rugby union.

Currently linked to the Parramatta Eels, The Courier-Mail reports that the New Zealand Warriors have emerged as the latest team to formally express interest in Asofa-Solomona, following his release from the Storm.

The Warriors became aware of him through a third-party contact earlier in September, marking a surprising turn after they had previously rejected an offer to sign him while he was still with the Storm in October.

However, it seems Asofa-Solomona has no intention of returning to the NRL for at least the upcoming season and is considering a career shift toward boxing or possibly joining the rebel rugby union competition known as R360.
