NRL clamps down on Sipley's risky drop tackle

Manly Sea Eagles prop Toafofoa Sipley has received a four-match ban from the NRL judiciary for a hip drop tackle during a game against the St George Illawarra Dragons.

The incident initially appeared to be a high shot penalty against Siosiua Taukeiaho but was later revealed to be a hip drop tackle resulting in a broken leg for Dragons winger Mat Feagai.

Sipley was sin binned for the tackle and had to undergo a HIA before returning to the field.

The NRL's match review committee referred the incident directly to the judiciary, leading to Sipley's lengthy suspension.

The penalty is more severe than what would typically be given for a Grade 3 charge.
