NRL CEO Andrew Abdo has firmly rejected any suggestions of changing the kick-off time for this year's grand final, amidst growing debate.
The impressive performance of the New Zealand Warriors, who are on the brink of qualifying for the 2023 showpiece, has sparked calls for a more viewer-friendly kick-off time, particularly in New Zealand.
Some fans have already criticized the NRL for scheduling the Warriors' preliminary final against Brisbane at 7:50pm (AEST) on Saturday night, as it will finish close to midnight for New Zealand fans.
If the Warriors progress to the grand final, a similar situation will arise with a 7:30pm kick-off in Sydney.
The NRL grand final date of October 1 also coincides with the start of daylight savings in Australia, meaning the match won't begin until 10:30pm NZ time and will end well after midnight.
The Warriors have been a feel-good story this season, with their home games at Mt Smart selling out rapidly.
The current grand final kick-off time poses challenges for Warriors fans traveling to and from New Zealand, as well as those watching it with their families at home.
