NRL Boss Considers Bunker's Fate in Forward Pass Fiasco

Peter V'landys supports bunker shake-up after Reece Walsh forward pass farce

NRL boss Peter V'landys is supportive of reviewing the power of the bunker to rule on forward passes, following a controversial incident involving the Warriors and Broncos.

During the preliminary final match, Reece Walsh was able to get away with throwing a blatant forward pass to Selwyn Cobbo, who then threw another potential forward pass back to Jordan Riki.

Fox Sports commentator Andrew Voss expressed his disbelief, stating, "Walsh has thrown it forward a mile, it's gone forward more than a mile and Brisbane have run away and scored."

The referee and touchline referee failed to pick up on the forward pass, leaving the NRL world shocked.

Currently, the bunker is unable to rule on a forward pass.

However, former player Michael Ennis believes that in this instance, the touchline referee may have been hindered by Walsh's speed in breaking the line.

NRL boss V'landys is reportedly in favor of a review to determine if the bunker should be able to intervene when a forward pass is clear-cut in the lead-up to a try.

NRL head of football Graham Annesley confirmed that this issue will be included in the end-of-season review conducted by all stakeholders.

It remains to be seen if any changes will be implemented to give the bunker the authority to rule on forward passes.
