In yet another dramatic twist, the NRL has come down hard on Triple M, rather than on the outspoken Latrell Mitchell himself, leaving fans seething once again.
The league has slapped Triple M with a ban on filming post-match on-field interviews, in a surprising move following the explosive interview that saw Mitchell drop a string of expletives after South Sydney's loss to Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium last week.
Mitchell, the Rabbitohs fullback, brazenly admitted to swearing during the interview with Triple M radio, causing a wave of backlash against the NRL star.
Despite the widespread criticism, the NRL has opted not to punish Mitchell directly, fueling accusations of preferential treatment for the 26-year-old.
The decision to spare Mitchell from sanctions has sparked outrage among fans and critics alike.
And adding fuel to the fire, the NRL has now banned Triple M from filming on-field interviews, citing a breach of broadcast rights as the radio station did not hold video rights.
According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, both the Rabbitohs and Channel Nine raised concerns with the NRL about Triple M's filming practices, leading to the ban being imposed on the radio station.
Triple M has since removed a social media video of the contentious interview with Mitchell and will no longer be permitted to film such segments moving forward.
