'Generational leader': Norris to coach Capras

Women's rugby league in Central Queensland has taken a significant step forward with the appointment of Tahnee Norris as the BMD Head Coach of the Rockhampton Leagues Club Capras.

Norris is celebrated as one of the best players and coaches in the history of women's rugby. She brings a remarkable background, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to create a winning culture to the Capras women's program.

She has been recognized in the NRL Women's Team of the Decade and holds the record as the most capped Australian Jillaroo, having represented her country in 32 Test matches and participated in four World Cups (2000, 2003, 2008, and 2013). Norris was named in the Team of the Tournament three times and co-captained Australia to its maiden Women's World Cup victory in 2013.

After retiring, Norris swiftly transitioned to coaching, achieving notable successes at various levels. She led the Burleigh Bears to an impressive six premierships in seven seasons, assisted the Australian Jillaroos, and most recently, coached the Queensland Women's team to State of Origin series victories in 2021, 2023, and 2024.

In recognition of her remarkable contributions to rugby league, Norris was inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame in 2024.

Additionally, Rockhampton Girls Grammar School has announced Norris as the new Head of Boarding, highlighting her respected role as a leader, mentor, and pioneer in Australian women's sports.

Capras CEO Peter White emphasized that this appointment marks a pivotal moment for the club and for women's rugby league in the region.
