NRL legend Greg Alexander has thrown some shade at Cronulla halfback Nicho Hynes after another underwhelming performance in a crucial game, raising doubts about his future in the team.

Hynes, who has been under the pump recently, is facing intense scrutiny ahead of the Sharks' semi-final clash against North Queensland this Friday.

The star halfback's lacklustre display in the finals against the Storm left much to be desired, with just 50m run and no significant attacking contributions to his name as the Sharks were thrashed 37-10 by their opponents.

With Cronulla now at 0-4 in finals matches with Hynes at the helm, questions about his ability to rise to the occasion in big games have resurfaced.

From failing to find touch from a penalty kick to being completely shut down by the Storm forwards, Hynes' performance has left much to be desired.

Although Hynes is still finding his feet after a serious leg injury, his form this season has been far from the stellar heights he reached in 2022 when he clinched the Dally M Medal.

With the likes of Braydon Trindall and Daniel Atkinson waiting in the wings, Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon faces a tough decision ahead of Friday's clash at Allianz Stadium as they strive to break a seven-game losing streak in the finals.

Will Hynes rise to the challenge and prove his critics wrong, or will the Sharks look to fresh blood in the halves to turn their fortunes around? Only time will tell.
