The Newcastle Knights are set to announce their new head coach, concluding the search for Adam O'Brien's successor.

According to News Corp, former Gold Coast Titans coach Justin Holbrook has emerged as the chosen candidate, surpassing others like Blake Green, Brian McDermott, and Dean Young.

His prior experience in the NRL significantly influenced this decision, which was reached by a five-person committee comprising CEO Peter Parr, General Manager Chris James, Michael Hagam, Director Tony Price, and Chairman Geoff Coburn, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Holbrook, who has previously managed the Gold Coast Titans and the Papua New Guinea national team, has spent recent seasons alongside Trent Robinson at the Sydney Roosters.

During his stint with the Titans, Holbrook achieved a 37 percent winning percentage, amassing 30 wins against 51 losses.

Prior to coaching the Titans, he achieved notable success at St Helens, where he led the team to a Super League Grand Final victory in 2019. Over three seasons, Holbrook secured 70 wins out of a possible 87 matches.

"I want to be a head coach again, definitely, I don't have any doubts about that," Holbrook stated in an interview with The Courier-Mail in 2024.
