Newcastle Knights will meet the New Zealand Warriors in Auckland on Sunday, with a preliminary-final place against Penrith Panthers at stake.
Dylan Lucas is a surprise possibility after an injury initially ruled him out for the 2026 season.
He fractured and dislocated his left ankle against Sydney Roosters in Round 21 and required immediate surgery.
Now named in the reserves, Lucas could complete an eight-week recovery, although coach Justin Holbrook has not ruled him out.
"Right from the day he got injured, he was wanting to fast-track himself and do everything right," Holbrook said.
Holbrook also credited edge back-rowers Jermaine McEwan and Francis Manuleleua for stepping up during Lucas's absence.
Both youngsters impressed in the elimination-final victory over South Sydney and are seeking to keep their starting places.
"[They've been] excellent, and obviously both of them," Holbrook said.
