Newcastle Knights coach Adam O'Brien has responded to former Bulldogs player Willie Mason's criticism of Tyson Gamble after the Knights' loss to the Warriors.

Mason had previously described the Knights' spine as the worst in the NRL without star player Kalyn Ponga.

Gamble fired back at Mason, telling him to "get f***ed" and suggesting he focus on his coaching duties at Canterbury.

Following the Knights' defeat to the Warriors, Mason took another shot at Gamble, calling him "below average" in a scathing social media post.

O'Brien expressed disappointment in Mason's comments, stating that it was unfair to Gamble.

He praised Gamble's performance and emphasized that the loss was not solely his fault.

O'Brien also highlighted Gamble's commitment to the team, noting that he is not a high-paid player but always gives his best on the field.
