Nawaqanitawase has recently announced his decision to leave the NRL, marking a significant moment for the Sydney Roosters who were struck hard by the news. The star winger, currently under contract at Bondi until 2026, has expressed his desire to return to rugby union after his time in league.

While speculation suggests that the upcoming 2027 Rugby World Cup might have influenced his switch to a different code, Nawaqanitawase has shared his personal reasons for this change. He has openly acknowledged his yearning for aspects of rugby that he misses.

"I love the game of union," Nawaqanitawase told ABC Pacific.

He elaborated on his feelings of restriction within rugby league, describing a longing for the more liberated style of play offered in union.

"I guess the freedom [is something I miss]," he said.
