Nawaqanitawase is pushing for a salary increase following an outstanding season. Except for a remarkable four-try performance by Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow last Sunday, the Sydney Roosters' Mark Nawaqanitawase is on track to win the Ken Irvine Medal in 2025 for the highest number of tries.
With 23 tries this season, he has significantly outperformed competitors, transforming from an aspiring rugby player to a potential Kangaroos representative at just 24 years old. He concluded the season with only six tries shy of the regular-season record of 30, held by Alex Johnston, which is an impressive achievement for any rookie.
Although he hasn't been officially recognized as a star for the Australian Kangaroos yet, many believe it's just a matter of time. As Nawaqanitawase ends his spectacular debut season, reports suggest he is looking for a salary that reflects his promising future.
Currently earning $500,000, Wide World of Sports has reported that his management is pursuing a pay raise. They propose a substantial increase to $700,000, which would make him the highest-paid winger in the league, surpassing players like Zac Lomax and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who are both earning approximately $650,000.
The Roosters are keen to retain this young talent, particularly as his previous sport is reportedly interested in bringing him back when his current contract expires.
