At just 20 years old, Tevita Naufahu has already made a significant impact at the Dolphins Rugby League club.
Naufahu's recent two-year contract extension through 2029 comes as he steps into the role of star winger Jamayne Isaako, who is moving to Melbourne next season.
His journey began when he transitioned from schoolboy rugby union in New Zealand to league, becoming the first graduate of the Dolphins' inaugural academy to make his NRL debut.
Determined to pursue a career in rugby league, Naufahu recalled discussing his aspirations with his family during high school and subsequently meeting the team's head coach, Wayne Bennett.
He shared, "I didn't think. I put my hand out to shake his hand and I don't think he liked it at the start, but he said I am a presentable kid with good manners and look like a good kid."
This initial meeting motivated Naufahu, who returned to impress Bennett by wearing a watch to signal his commitment to professionalism.
Soon after joining the Dolphins, he set a goal to learn from Isaako, especially his ability to remain calm under pressure.
Naufahu noted, "Under pressure Jamayne is real good at staying calm and he has taught us younger boys that if you commit to what you want to do and stay calm you will come out the right end."
Having made his NRL debut in 2025, he has impressively scored nine tries in just 15 games, showcasing his speed and resilience.
He credits head coach Kristian Woolf for instilling a strong work ethic in him, stating, "Woolfy is all about effort, and the more you show the more respect you get from the older boys."
Naufahu is prepping for the potential call-up during the upcoming preliminary final against either Cronulla or the Sydney Roosters, saying, "If they gave me the call-up I would be ready to go."
The Dolphins also recently announced the re-signing of utility player Brad Schneider until 2028, indicating their commitment to building a solid team.
