Panthers NRL premiership star Nathan Cleary has come out swinging in defense of the Matildas against Marty Sheargold's trolling, labeling it as "sad" and "unnecessary." Sheargold, who recently split from Triple M, made derogatory comments about the Australian women's football team, comparing them to "Year 10 girls" and expressing his lack of interest in watching their Asian Cup campaign.

Cleary, gearing up to lead Penrith in their round-one clash with Cronulla in Las Vegas, stood by his girlfriend, Matildas player Mary Fowler, amidst the backlash against Sheargold's remarks.

"It's pretty sad that people are still saying that sort of stuff," Cleary remarked at the NRL fan hub in Las Vegas, adding, "It's just unnecessary."

The NRL superstar, in a display of solidarity and support for Fowler, who plays for Manchester City, emphasized the importance of standing up against such negative comments and attitudes.

Cleary and Fowler have been dating since late 2023, navigating the challenges of a long-distance relationship while excelling in their respective sporting endeavors.
