Finance broker Charlie Murray is set to make his NRL debut with the Wests Tigers against the Panthers, marking a significant moment in his career.
According to abc.net.au, Murray previously worked with the Gold Coast and Melbourne Storm before joining the Tigers on a train-and-trial deal this year.
He is now preparing to play off the interchange bench for coach Benji Marshall on Sunday.
Murray reflected on his recent interactions with teammates, saying, "I only just got to know them (his teammates), I think some of them only just worked out my name was Charlie." His journey to this point has not been easy; he nearly stepped away from rugby league entirely but was encouraged by the Tigers' offer to pursue his NRL aspirations again.
With 66 reserve-grade matches already under his belt, Murray's long wait for a chance to compete at the highest level is finally coming to an end.
