Parramatta Eels star Mahalia Murphy has highlighted the essential role that rugby league plays in aiding Indigenous children facing challenging family circumstances.

A proud member of the Kamilaroi nation, Murphy also balances her career as an elite athlete with her position as an Aboriginal Consultant in Child Protection Services.

These dual roles offer Murphy insight into the difficulties encountered by First Nations families and provide a platform for fostering societal change.

Taking her responsibilities seriously, the Eels captain is committed to making a positive difference in Indigenous communities.

Over her decade-long involvement in elite sports, Murphy has observed significant societal transformations.

Making her Jillaroos debut in 2015, she entered the scene long before the National Rugby League Women's (NRLW) league was created.

Nine years later, she returned to the Australian team for the 2024 Pacific Championships campaign, eager to celebrate the Jillaroos' 30th anniversary this season.
