Cameron Munster has been confirmed to lead Queensland in the State of Origin decider against NSW, amidst the tragedy of his father's death over the weekend.
This devastating news prompted Munster to leave camp temporarily to be with his family, and though there were no expectations for him to return, Queensland coach Billy Slater confirmed his commitment to the match.
"It's a huge game and he wants to be a part of that," Slater stated.
Munster, who assumed the captaincy after Queensland's loss in Game 1, had a player-of-the-match performance in Perth, significantly motivating his team.
Former NSW five-eighth Matty Johns commented on Munster's situation, emphasizing the emotional impact it may have on Queensland's performance.
Although he hesitated to draw connections between personal tragedy and sports, Johns believes the respect Munster commands among his teammates will galvanize them.
"I'll just preface this with I don't like to bring in certain things like the passing of Cameron's dad, Steve, on it.
But I just know the way this Queensland side will rally around Cameron," he said on SEN Radio.
He further noted Munster's mental resilience, suggesting he will play with heightened determination: "Cameron's ability to compartmentalise and be mentally tough.
And he will be out there to play the game of his life for his dad.
And from a NSW perspective that worries me."
With Munster back in the fold, Queensland appears poised to utilize his leadership in the crucial match against NSW on Wednesday night.
